To every nurse, doctor and healthcare worker, your profession is one of the greatest acts of service in this world. Every day you step into rooms filled with pain, fear, uncertainty and suffering. You comfort the weak, care for the broken and often become the difference between life and death for someone.
But beyond physical healing, there is another kind of healing many people desperately need: spiritual healing.
Hospitals are filled with people carrying invisible burdens such as fear, hopelessness, guilt, loneliness, depression and questions about life and death. Some patients are fighting for another chance at life, while others are searching for peace in their final moments. In times like these, medicine may heal the body, but only God can heal the soul.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” - Romans 3:23
Every person, whether healthy or sick, faces the deeper problem of sin. And salvation is found only through Jesus Christ.
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” - John 14:6
As believers, we are called not only to serve people physically, but also to shine the light of Christ wherever God places us. For healthcare workers, that mission field may be the hospital room, the emergency ward or the bedside of someone who has lost all hope.
This does not mean forcing Christ on patients or using fear or pressure. True Christian witness is rooted in love, wisdom, compassion and respect. Sometimes the most powerful ministry begins simply by listening, encouraging or praying with someone who is hurting.
But sometimes maybe threaten him I'll say xD. After the 10 mins of Gospel talk, you have sown the seed and that's what we are called to do. God will take care of the rest, if that man is humble to accept it.
There may be moments when a patient asks difficult questions:
“Why am I suffering?”
“Is there hope after death?”
“Does God still care about me?”
“Is there hope after death?”
“Does God still care about me?”
In those moments, your faith can become a source of comfort and truth.
“Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” - Romans 10:17
That is why it is important for believers to grow in Scripture, wisdom and understanding. When people are searching for answers, we should be ready to gently point them toward Christ.
This is precisely why my message always has been urging everyone to equip yourself with wisdom and the Bible and maybe a few evidences for God's existence and other apologetics content as you never know who you are going to meet and what questions he'll raise against you.
If you say," ummm I don't know the answer but I'll pray for you" that's not gonna work.
“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” - 1 Peter 3:15
Imagine the joy of seeing someone discover peace in Christ during the darkest moment of their life. Even if a patient’s earthly life is coming to an end, the Gospel offers eternal hope.
Jesus Himself gave this promise to the thief on the cross:
“Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in paradise.” - Luke 23:43
“Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in paradise.” - Luke 23:43
What an incredible privilege it is, not only to care for the body, but also to share words that can save a soul.
Before sharing the Gospel with others, make sure your own faith is grounded and that you truly understand the assurance of your salvation in Christ.
There is something deeply moving about seeing a person turn to Christ in their final moments. To witness someone place their faith in Him before death is a powerful reminder of God’s mercy and grace. The thought of meeting that person again in eternity because they accepted Christ is a joy beyond words.
If God grants healing and recovery, even better, you just made a new disciple who'll carry out the work you started in him through Christ. Your kindness and witness may continue impacting that person long after they leave the hospital.
Never underestimate the power of compassion, prayer and truth spoken in love. Your medical skills may save lives, but your faith may help lead someone toward eternal hope in Christ.
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” - Matthew 5:16
What a beautiful calling that is.
Let this reshape the way you see your profession and the deeper meaning behind the work you do.
23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,
24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:23-24)
24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:23-24)
let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. (James 5:20)
For if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! (1 Corinthians 9:16)
preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. (2 Timothy 4:2)
“Nothing is colder than a Christian who does not care for the salvation of others.” John Chrysostom
“No sacrifice is more acceptable to God than zeal for souls.” Gregory the Great
