Perched high up in the Western Ghats, adjacent to Kerala’s famed Periyar wildlife sanctuary, is a 126-year-old dam that has dangerously outlived the 50 years of life intended for it by colonial British engineers.NK Premachandran, a member of parliament from Kerala, describes the 53.6 metre-high Mullaperiyar dam on the Periyar river as “a ticking timebomb waiting to explode, not only because of its antiquity but also because it is located on an acknowledged seismic zone”. If this dam bursts open, millions of people will die and properties worth billions will wash away. The Indian state of Kerala will cease to exist.
At least 5 districts will be completely cleaned out of existence, and the rest would face electricity crisis and other dark aftermath for ages. This would become one of the worst dam failures in the history of civilization. Majority of the dams that outlived its useful life didn't survive long. Either it was decommissioned or it would burst open and kill millions. Due to political agenda, government officials and politicians aren't decommissioning the dam or taking action to safeguard the interests of public. Satan is real. Pray that they take action against the situation or it's game over.
Now, majority of the experts say that the existence of this particular dam even after more than 50 years of its expiry date is purely a MIRACLE and that GOD is holding the gates of this dam. Or else its simply impossible to understand, how can a 126 year old dam who outlived it's 50 year expiry date, survived till date. I had a discussion with my dad on this issue and he told me an interesting and deep analogy on this situation which I would like to share.
22 So the men turned from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the LORD. 23 Then Abraham drew near and said, "Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city. Will you then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?" 26 And the LORD said, "If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake."
27 Abraham answered and said, "Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes. 28 Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?" And he said, "I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there." 29 Again he spoke to him and said, "Suppose forty are found there." He answered, "For the sake of forty I will not do it." 30 Then he said, "Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there." He answered, "I will not do it, if I find thirty there." 31 He said, "Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there." He answered, "For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it." 32 Then he said, "Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there." He answered, "For the sake of ten I will not destroy it." 33 And the LORD went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place. (Genesis 18:22-33, ESV)
What do you understand from this part of the Scripture? God is infinitely patient, loving and ever-ready to forgive His people. If you read Genesis 18 in it's context, God is going to judge and get done with the city of Sodom and Gomorrah due to it's sin and sinful people. But still, being compassionate Abraham intercedes for the people and as in His nature,God is ready to forgive them and refrain from judging the people of Sodom and Gomorrah even if He finds 10 righteous people. But unfortunately He doesn't find anyone who is righteous or fears the Lord and therefore He destroys Sodom and Gomorrah by raining sulfur and fire from heaven. (Except Lot and his family).
How is this dam still surviving then? God isn't destroying the whole damn area because of the faith of a few righteous and God-fearing people. He's patient. He's waiting for His people to return to Him. But there's a point when Sin reaches it's saturation point after which it's over. To be honest, if I were God, I would have erased humanity the moment sin starts growing or when people continue to reject God (or me in this context) shamelessly. But I'm not God. His thoughts are not my thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9).That's when I understand God's divine and infinite patience. He is waiting for people to turn back from their sins and come back to Him. But you know what, it's not going to happen. Look around. You know how wicked people are and how wicked people are getting day by day. Yet, God knows how things are and how things ought to be.
The only reason the dam is standing today is because of His chosen-saved people's faith.
Now, even if the dam bursts open, a person who is saved couldn't care less. If God wills,he'll survive or else he knows that when he dies, he'll be with God and would spend eternity with Him. So it's a win-win situation for a saved believer.
Ask this question to yourself- Am I saved? Am I going to heaven when I die? My message from day 1 is this : Accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and get right with Him before it's too late. You would have a peaceful life here on earth but above all you will have the privilege to spend eternity with God.
Don't take the dam issue as a reason for repentance. You could die today or anyday, through any means, even if it's just a mosquito bite. This is not an important issue. It doesn't matter when or how you die, what matters is, whether you were saved. Death is not the end for a believer, it's just that you are changing your home address. So repent and get right with God as the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. I want to encourage you guys by saying, do not panic, God is our refugee. If you are saved, strengthen your faith, if you aren't saved, repent and get right with God.Pray that an action is taken against the issue and the problem is resolved as soon as possible. Otherwise, His will may be done. Take heart and hold on to God.
