1. Hearing God's Word
And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13
Don't hear the Word of God for the sake of hearing, rather hear it to understand. Adjust your lifestyle and discipline yourself to hear the Word of God attentively. Hear the word of God from preachers who present the Bible as it is, without any additions or alterations, or perhaps their message is too pure or sweetened for you to understand.
Sugar coated talks would lead you to hell. Your heart must burn, when you hear false doctrine. Majority of pastors/priests love people pleasing so they sugar coat THE TRUTH to suit the lifestyle of his audience. Beware of such demonic perverts of Scriptures.
2. Reading God's Word
But he answered, "It is written, "'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" (Matthew 4:4, ESV)
How often do we face problems, temptations and pressure? Everyday!
Then how often do we need instruction, guidance and greater encouragement? Everyday!
1. Read REGULARLY
2. Read ANALYTICALLY
3. Read COMPLETELY
4. Read REVERNTLY
5. Read EXPECTANTLY
In just 12 minutes per day, you could read the whole Bible in a year. Does that feel a bit ambitious? In just 6 minutes per day, you could read the entire New Testament over the course of 6 months. The best reading habit would be to read 4 chapters per day and you would complete the whole Bible in 298 days.
3. Memorizing God's Word
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:11, ESV)
- Memorizing supplies Spiritual Power
- Memorizing strengthens faith
- Memorizing prepares us for witnessing and counselling
- Memorization provides a means of God's guidance
- Memorization stimulates meditation
When we memorize the Word of God, several things happen. Psalm 119:11 tells us the psalmist hid God’s Word in his heart so that he would not sin against Him.
Not only did he hear and read the Word, but he internalized it and laid it up in his mind and memory for future use. The Word of God is the believer’s only truly potent weapon against sin, and when placed in the mind through Bible memorization, it is a strong influence for godliness and righteous living. Hebrews 4:12 tells us the Word of God is “living and active,” meaning that it has supernatural power to mold us into Christ-likeness when we meditate upon it, and there is no better way to meditate on the Word than to have it in our minds and memories.
